Design Bedroom of your Dreams!!

A bedroom is a private place where people relax or nap during the day and sleep during nights. Of course, a bedroom won’t be a bedroom if there is no bed. Aside from a comfortable bed, it has standard furnishings like a dresser, night stand, desk, and closet. Some bedrooms have balcony connected to it where one can have a breath of fresh air. We spend most of our time in the bedroom because we spend 7 to 9 hours sleeping and we still take some nap during the day. It could be considered as someone’s favorite place.

Here are the main points to remember when decorating your bedroom.

Give top most priority to bed

Your bed will be the focal point in your bedroom. So, select your bed according to the size of your room if your bedroom is large, then go for king size bed. If your bedroom is not big enough, go for a medium size bed. Also, choose a good mattress. Something that is soft and comfortable would be perfect.

Choose the right flooring material

Instead of using cold flooring like ceramic tiles, marble or granite, make use of laminated flooring, wood, or carpet. It is not advisable to use ceramic tiles because it will only make your floor cold. But if you already have marble or ceramic flooring in your bedroom, put a rug or a carpet near your bedside.

Choose the right colors

In choosing colors for a bedroom, make sure you will use neutral colors, warm colors and pastel colors. These should be used on your walls, ceilings and even your furniture. Avoid using bright colors. Make sure that the colors of your furniture and even fabrics complement each other.

Use the right lightnings

In a bedroom, it's good to "layer" your lighting throughout the room. Ambient lighting light the whole room, small lamps can focus light for reading and other activities. Each light should be adjustable with a dimmer. Install a separate on/off switch for each light so that you can be selective and light only the area you want.

Have a smart storage space

Of course, you would always have a cabinet in your room where you will place your clothes and other belongings. It is advisable to have extra cabinet to make sure your things are well kept. Be wise in placing it in order to save space. A bedroom should be well arranged, neat and clutter-free. Having enough storage spaces will help you avoid clutter.

Choose the right colors and designs for fabric

When you choose a bed cover and curtains, make sure it will look well in the room. Consider the color of your room. You can choose darker fabrics if your room is light and lighter fabrics if your room is dark. Also, try to look for a design that suits the concept of your room. you might also use a curtain with two layers. The fabric can actually show your personality. So, choose well.

Choose the right Window treatments !!

A home without window treatments will look unfinished and cheap. Window treatments not only add some elegance to your home, as well as much-needed privacy.

When selecting window treatments you want to make smart choices. In Today’s market there are many window treatments like draperies, Roman shades, blinds, shutters etc.. It is that you should pick the right which will be perfect complement to your interiors.

Here we are providing the guide to the window treatments.

Curtains and Drapes

Curtains and drapes are often used window treatments. Not only do they filter out harsh light, but they can set the mood and tone of a room.

When considering curtains, it’s important to think about both form and function. Before you make a selection, you’ll want to make sure you have carefully considered all of the following: color, fabric, type of hardware needed to mount the curtains, and the shape and size of your windows. All of these different options will play into the selection that you make.

Panels

Ideal for living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms, panels look best on larger windows and sliding glass or french doors. They have a lengthening effect, and when placed slightly above the top of the window or door, can even make your room look more spacious! Panels come in any color or pattern you could possibly imagine. Buy already made curtains in your favorite patterns or have them custom-made with a fabric of your choosing.

Thermal or Blackout Draperies

These have come a long way in the last few years to combine style and function. Thermal and blackout curtains come in a variety of configurations, but all are designed to be energy efficient and light blocking. Use your thermal curtains to cool a space when you close them during the heat of the day, or to warm it when the winter sun is out. Because blackout and thermal curtains are heavy, once closed, they stay closed and let in almost no light by design.

Sheers

Sheers are light and airy, but do come in a variety of colors. They are very versatile and can appear alone or paired with heavier materials and valances. Using sheer curtains underneath heavier drapes or curtains allows you flexibility in terms of how much light and privacy you have. Closing the drapes creates total privacy, while opening the drapes and closing the sheers lets in some light without making you feel exposed.

Tiers

Tiers are hung on short rod-pocket panels. They are usually meant to cover the lower third of a window and are popular choices for bathrooms, kids rooms, and kitchens. Tiers work as part of a traditional or country look and are often paired with a valance.

Shades

People often refer to blinds and shades interchangeably. While the two have much in common, they also have some important differences. Both types of window treatments can add privacy and block out light, but shades can be the less expensive option between the two. The biggest difference, however, is that shades do not have slats or vanes. They are made of continuous pieces of fabric that roll-up via a pulley mechanism.

Pleated Shades

Simple and pleasing, pleated shades are a classic choice. They are made of a single piece of fabric, accented by crisp pleats. They come in a variety of fabrics and colors. Lighter colors allow more light to come in, while darker colors are the right choice for enhanced privacy and to keep light out.

Cellular/Honeycomb Shades

Cellular shades are quickly becoming a favorite in the window treatments market. They have honeycomb-shaped pockets between the back and front panels, making them cost and energy efficient. The pockets trap air, reducing heat loss in the winter and keeping your rooms cool in the summer.

Roller/Solar Shades

Choose solar shades to reduce glare and harmful UV rays. Another benefit of solar shades is that they are easy to clean with a wet cloth. Select from a variety of textures and fabrics, including eco-friendly bamboo and hemp blends for your green home.

Roman Shades

Roman Shades can be light and elegant, with a permanent folded bottom or multiple folds. They can also be made from heavier fabrics, which block the light. These shades are ideal for rooms where you want some light to come in, as they are not high on the light-blocking spectrum. Because they are so light and airy, they are also not the choice for energy efficiency.

Blinds

Harder than shades, blinds can be made of wood, composite materials, aluminum, leather, or vinyl. The slats come in a variety of lengths and widths, and can be horizontal or vertical. Blinds offer great versatility in terms of light blocking: They can be completely opened or closed, partially opened or closed, or angled to let light filter in where and when you want it.

Wood Blinds

Wood blinds offer a touch of sophistication to otherwise run-of-the-mill vertical blinds. Choose from a variety of woods and finishes, from mahogany to matte. Wood blinds are most often used in living areas, rather than bedrooms or kitchens, as they can feel heavy.

Faux Wood Blinds

Faux wood blinds are both easier to care for and less expensive than traditional wood blinds. Composite materials have come a long way in the past decade, and faux wood blinds look very convincing. In rooms where you spend less time, choosing faux wood blinds that match the real wood blinds in your main spaces can be a smart cost-saving trick.

Vertical Blinds

Vertical blinds add dimension and perspective to tall windows and doors; because of this, they are often enlisted to dress patio and balcony doors. Available in both fabric and vinyl materials, you are sure to find a color and material that meets the needs of your space. Vertical blinds work well to block light, especially in darker colors.

Mini-Blinds

They are not long on style, they are effective at blocking out light and creating privacy. If you plan to leave your blinds up most of the time, mini-blinds can be a cost-effective option. Choose from many different colors and from aluminum or vinyl blinds.

Shutters

Shutters offer a classic, elegant look that privileges both function and style equally. Even sturdier than blinds, shutters can be expected to last up to 20 years!

It's worth pointing out that shutters can be both interior and exterior. Exterior shutters can be a great choice for anyone who needs protection against strong winds, hurricanes, or sun.

When choosing your shutters, you’ll want to understand the differences between the major categories of interior shutters and that you will be choosing from wood, composite, or vinyl. Nowadays, more colors and finishes are available than ever before, so you can customize your shutters to an unprecedented degree.

Plantation Shutters

A popular choice for kitchens and other areas where you want to let in lots of natural light, Plantation shutters are among the most popular style of shutters on the market today and are often selling points when a home is on the market!

Cafe Style Shutters

This makes perfect for kitchens and dining rooms, but could also work in any room where you want to block out unsightly outdoor views, while still letting light into your home. Cafe shutters work well with curtains installed above them if you are looking for more privacy.

Shaker Style Shutters

Shaker style or solid panel shutters are the type of shutters you imagine shutting out a bad storm and curling up with a book behind. shaker style shutters have been recommended for larger rooms, as it was assumed that they could make a smaller room feel closed and shut off.

How to choose an Interior Designer!!

It is a good decision to hire an interior designer if you want aesthetic design plans for your interior spaces. Unfortunately, interior designers do not come cheap, especially if you are looking for a good one. But how to find a good interior designer at a fair price? Well, it will not be an easy task but it is not impossible to get a quality service at a reasonable price.

Ways to find a good Interior designer:

1) References:

Start the search for an interior designer by asking your friends, colleagues, neighbors, co-workers and other people you know if they know a good interior designer. It would be great if anyone of them had an interior designer in their house recently to be able to check the quality of the work.

2) Browse the Web:

Surf the internet for interior designers in your area and look their previous works, how long they are working as interior designers and of course, the testimonials of their previous clients. When you find an interior designers with enough experience and positive customer reviews, you should contact them.

Points to keep in mind when you choose an Interior designer

a) Interior Designers always try to suit their client's specific needs, which is why you should not judge them by the work you see at your friend's home alone because your friends may be perfectly satisfied with a design you consider absolutely unacceptable. Ask them if they are satisfied with the results and if the interior design meets their needs perfectly. If the answer is a big yes, they had a good interior designer no matter what you think about the design.

b) Contact the Interior Designers and see if they are interested in your project as mentioned earlier, the best ones are not cheap, and however they do not have to be affordable either.

c) Instead of looking for a cheaper Interior Designers it is better to hire the best one and try to find how can you reduce the overall costs, as most of the designers allow you to choose which services you want them to provide and enable you to choose which part of the designing you want to take over by yourself.

Guide for the most popular flooring options !!

Picking the flooring material is considered to be one of the most challenging tasks when designing your home. Since the floor is usually the largest surface in a room, it lays the foundation for the entire look of the space—color, style, texture, and pattern. Floor choice is about balancing your needs with your style.

Which type of flooring is best depends on the room and the flow of traffic; there are a various considerations to think about. Here is the guide for the most popular flooring options in India…

Marble Flooring

Marble is a naturally occurring material found at various places throughout India. Associated with style and opulence, marble is available in a variety of colors including pink, grey and white. The material is highly porous and fairly easy to maintain, sometimes lasting more than 25 years, when cared for properly. However, it has been noticed that some low-quality stones tend to turn yellowish over the years. Because of its natural occurrence and limited availability, this one is priced highly.

Vitrified Tile Flooring

Vitrified tiles are composed of a mixture of clay and other minerals like silica, quartz and feldspar baked at high temperatures. Generally coated with an external glaze, these tiles have a low water absorption rate and are durable. They come in a large variety of designs, colors, prints and textures. Tiles can also be designed to simulate natural materials such as wood, bamboo and even marble. An affordable option suitable for both interior and exterior use. vitrified tiles are available in glossy, matte and anti-skid finishes.

Granite Flooring

A naturally occurring stone available in a variety of colors, granite flooring can bring a note of sophistication to any setting. Few granite's have high stain resistance and durability so, it is fairly easy to maintain and only needs protection from scratches. The stone keeps cool for most parts of the year and hence is a good choice for flooring.

Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl Flooring is another versatile option that is available for people who want aesthetics at an efficient cost. Available in designs that simulate hardwood and stone finishes. These floors are stain resistant and water resistant so, they are quite durable. However, you will need to take special care to protect the floor from scratches.

Hardwood Flooring

A high-maintenance but nonetheless popular option, hardwood flooring is available in strips, planks and parquet patterns. When properly maintained, these floors can be quite durable. Hardwood floors are available in different natural shades like walnut and cherry, and can complement a variety of decor themes. While hardwood flooring is relatively expensive when compared to other options, it’s still a popular choice in terms of aesthetics. Wear and tear can sometimes cause noises, creaks and squeaking.

Bamboo Flooring

Bamboo is a naturally occurring material and the flooring done in this material resembles hardwood flooring. Bamboo Flooring is fairly easy to maintain as it is water and stain resistant and can bring a distinctly sophisticated feel to your home decor. Humid weather can cause the Bamboo planks to plump up, so it’s best used in moderately dry conditions (areas).

Laminate Flooring

Laminate flooring is gaining popularity for its sheer durability and sturdiness. Easy to install. Laminate flooring is fairly resistant to stains and water damage. However, once it gets damaged, flooring need to be replaced completely as it cannot be re-polished or re-done. The diversity in the range of patterns and finishes makes it well suited to various decor styles. While shopping for laminate flooring, make sure you ask for the ‘slip-resistant’ kind.

Linoleum Flooring

Linoleum is an eco-friendly flooring material produced from raw materials like linseed oil, cork, dust and resin. A cost efficient and highly versatile (in terms of design) flooring option. However, the soft surface is prone to dents and scratches from careless usage. For such reasons, this type of flooring should ideally be used in areas of the house which see low traffic.

Terrazzo Flooring

Terrazzo flooring is made up of chips of granite and marble placed in concrete or similar materials. Commonly called “mosaic flooring”, these floors are durable enough to stand the test of time. These tiles are stain resistant and easy to maintain. They are very economical.

Brick Flooring

Due to its cost effectiveness, brick flooring is widely popular. Known for their extraordinary strength, fire resistance, and extensive durability, bricks are easy to clean. However, bricks are highly porous and can be chipped easily. Aesthetically versatile, brick flooring can be laid out in different patterns including staggered, basket weave and other arrangements. This is one of the best options if you are looking for a floor which maintains a moderate temperature to add a hint of a rustic style to your home.

Concrete Flooring

Concrete is a man-made product composed of cement, rocks, granite chips and other material. Flooring done in concrete is strong and probably among the most durable flooring options out there. Concrete flooring is largely damage resistant, except for slight chipping and scratching due to wear and tear. However, moisture can adversely affect a badly done floor with cracks and craters. Today, concrete floors are found in a wide range of colours and textures.
